Buckingham Ablaze
Buckingham came alive over the weekend of 15 March to celebrate the Great Fire of 1725. Friends from France, Germany and Italy joined us, and I was delighted to host a young French woman on her first visit to Buckingham.
It was a wonderful chance to show off the town and its strong community spirit. We visited Stowe, enjoyed fish and chips in the Chantry Chapel, and joined the Market Hill celebrations. The highlight for me was the circle dancing: young and old, locals and visitors, all dancing together to accordion music – a rare and joyful sight in Britain!
We ended the weekend with a convivial lunch for guests and hosts before bidding farewell to our French friends. A truly memorable weekend, and I’m sure my new French friend will be back.
